Signs of Fall

July 31There is more shadow under the edges of woods and copses now. The foliage appears to have increased so that the shadows are heavier, and perhaps it is
this that makes it cooler, especially morning and evening, though it may be as warm as ever at noon. The green cranberries are half formed. Saw but one Lysimachia stricta left in the meadows, the meadow-sweet meadows. The absence of flowers, the shadows, the wind, the green cranberries, etc., are autumnal. The river has risen a foot or so since its lowest early in the month. The water is quite cool. Methinks it cannot be so warm again this year.

The week ahead in Henry’s journal
A journal, a book that shall contain a record of all your joy.
"A stone fruit. Each one yields me a thought." ~ H. D. Thoreau, March 28, 1859

I sit on this rock
wrestling with the melody
that possesses me.
