The distant horizon a narrow blue line

July 9.

Now, with a clear sky and bright weather, we see many dark streaks and patches where the surface of the ocean is rippled by fishes, mostly menhaden, far and wide, in countless myriads, such the populousness of the sea.

Occasionally, when near, can see their shining sides appear —and the mackerel gulls dive. Also see bass, whiting, cod, etc., turn up their bellies, near the shore.

The distant horizon a narrow blue line from distance like mountains.

H. D. Thoreau, Journal , July 9, 1855

A journal, a book that shall contain a record of all your joy.
"A stone fruit. Each one yields me a thought." ~ H. D. Thoreau, March 28, 1859

I sit on this rock
wrestling with the melody
that possesses me.
