A Book of the Seasons: July 17

Flying shore to shore
yellowish devil's-needles
cross their Atlantic.

Distant hum of bees
at sunset from the basswood
in flower at the island.

By moonlight bullfrogs
lying at full length on the
pads where they trump.

wrestling with the melody
that possesses me.
